This includes children and young people participating in individual Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) sessions, school workshops, educational presentations, group activities and online sessions, as well as children whose parents or carers use our services.
The purpose of this policy is:
To protect children and young people from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
To establish clear safeguarding responsibilities and procedures.
To provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment for everyone accessing EFT For Me services.
To ensure that any concerns about a child's welfare are recognised, recorded and appropriately reported.
To promote good safeguarding practice when collaborating with schools, families and other organisations.
EFT For Me believes that every child and young person has the right to feel safe, respected, heard and protected from harm.
We recognise our responsibility to promote children's wellbeing and to work in ways that prioritise their safety at all times.
2. Our Safeguarding Commitment
We recognise that:
The welfare of the child is paramount.
All children have an equal right to protection, regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, identity, background or circumstances.
Some children may be additionally vulnerable due to disability, communication differences, previous trauma, family circumstances, mental health difficulties or other factors.
Children should be listened to, taken seriously and treated with dignity.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Working collaboratively with parents, carers, schools and relevant safeguarding agencies is essential to promoting children's welfare.
EFT For Me is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment in which children and young people can explore emotional wellbeing safely.

5. Safe Practice and Professional Boundaries
EFT For Me will seek to protect children and young people by:
Treating everyone with kindness, patience, dignity and respect.
Explaining EFT techniques in clear, age-appropriate language.
Ensuring that participation in EFT activities is voluntary.
Respecting a child's right not to participate or disclose personal information.
Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Avoiding unnecessary physical contact.
Providing a safe and appropriate environment for individual or group sessions.
Following the safeguarding arrangements of schools and host organisations.
Obtaining appropriate parental or guardian consent for individual work with minors.
Seeking the child's own informed agreement, appropriate to their age and understanding.
Ensuring that any required DBS checks and safeguarding training are maintained.
Recording and reporting concerns in accordance with this policy.
EFT For Me recognises that emotional wellbeing activities may sometimes bring up sensitive feelings or personal experiences.
Children will never be pressured to discuss distressing experiences, disclose personal information or participate in tapping exercises.
EFT is offered as a complementary emotional wellbeing technique and is not a substitute for medical treatment, psychological therapy, psychiatric care or specialist safeguarding support.
6. Safeguarding Within Schools
When delivering EFT workshops, presentations or wellbeing sessions in schools, EFT For Me will:
Agree safeguarding responsibilities with the school in advance.
Identify the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and reporting arrangements.
Follow the school's safeguarding, visitor and supervision procedures.
Work within the school's established arrangements for pupil supervision.
Use age-appropriate language and activities.
Avoid requesting personal disclosures in group settings.
Refer any safeguarding concerns promptly to the school's DSL.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with pupils and staff.
Unless separately agreed and appropriately risk assessed, school workshops will take place with school staff present.
7. Individual EFT Sessions With Children
Where EFT For Me offers individual sessions to children or young people:
Appropriate parental or guardian consent will normally be obtained.
The child's willingness to participate will be respected.
Arrangements for parental presence, proximity or supervision will be agreed according to age, needs, safeguarding considerations and relevant professional guidance.
Session locations and online platforms will be assessed for safety and privacy.
Communication with children will take place through agreed and appropriate channels.
Professional records will be maintained securely.
Confidentiality and its safeguarding limits will be explained clearly before sessions begin.
No child will be promised absolute confidentiality where there are concerns about their safety or the safety of others.
8. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns
Safeguarding concerns may arise through:
A child directly disclosing abuse or neglect.
Changes in behaviour or emotional presentation.
Signs of physical, emotional or sexual abuse.
Bullying, discrimination, harassment or exploitation.
Online grooming or other forms of online harm.
Concerns relating to domestic abuse or coercive control.
Statements suggesting that a child may be unsafe at home, school or elsewhere.
Behaviour indicating significant emotional distress or a risk of self-harm.
EFT For Me recognises that it is not the role of an EFT practitioner to investigate suspected abuse.
Any concerns will be handled sensitively and referred to the appropriate safeguarding professionals.
9. Responding to a Disclosure or Concern
If a child or young person discloses something that raises a safeguarding concern, EFT For Me will:
Listen calmly, carefully and without judgement.
Reassure the child that they have done the right thing by speaking up.
Avoid asking leading questions or investigating the allegation.
Explain that relevant information may need to be shared with someone who can help keep them safe.
Make an accurate, factual and dated record of what was said, using the child's own words where possible.
Report the concern without delay to the school's DSL or appropriate children's safeguarding service.
Contact emergency services immediately if a child is in immediate danger.
Information will only be shared with those who need it for safeguarding purposes.
Parents or carers will be involved where appropriate, unless doing so could increase the risk to the child or compromise safeguarding action.
A safeguarding referral will not be delayed simply because a designated safeguarding contact is unavailable.
10. Confidentiality and Data Protection
EFT For Me respects the privacy and confidentiality of children, young people and their families.
Personal information will be collected, processed and stored in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.
We will:
Collect only information necessary for providing services and fulfilling safeguarding responsibilities.
Store personal records securely.
Restrict access to confidential information.
Keep safeguarding concerns separate from routine session notes where appropriate.
Share information with relevant authorities where necessary and lawful to safeguard a child.
Follow applicable data retention and disposal requirements.
Confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where a child or another person may be at risk of significant harm.
11. Online Safety
Where EFT sessions or workshops take place online, EFT For Me will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguarding arrangements.
These include:
Using appropriate, secure communication platforms.
Agreeing online session arrangements with parents or carers where required.
Maintaining professional communication boundaries.
Avoiding private social media relationships with children and young people.
Not recording sessions without appropriate consent and a lawful basis.
Responding appropriately to any concerns about online exploitation, inappropriate communication or abuse.

EFT For Me will not publish photographs, recordings, personal stories or identifying details of children without appropriate permission and a lawful basis.
When working within schools, the school's photography, publicity and consent policies will be followed.
Children's identities and private experiences will be respected in educational resources, testimonials, publications and marketing materials.
